This is a sketch of a language used in <em>The Seven Papers<\/em> for naming\/cultural purposes \u2014 done in under an hour, the document flexible and malleable as I worked my way through what I needed. Over the course of writing, I expanded it a bit; this is not an exact duplicate of what I posted on Tumblr.<\/p>\n<p>This language was spoken in North Tvaji before the Sabaji invasion. I needed to use it in one of the stories because so much military conflict happens there, and at that specific point in\u00a0<em>The Seven Papers<\/em>, it&#8217;s used by a lot of refugees. <\/p>\n<p>I have characters named\u00a0<em>Tashung<\/em>, <em>Jumeidis<\/em>, <em>\u0106ana<\/em>, <em>As\u011fang<\/em>, <em>Tajei<\/em>, and <em>Sadva\u00a0<\/em>in that section whose native language is Gnaseklahi. As is typical, the <strong>-hi<\/strong> suffix is actually a Tveshi suffix that I&#8217;m applying to a non-Tveshi language; this is because the reference language for the work is Tveshi.<\/p>\n<h2>Gnaseklahi<\/h2>\n<h3>Vowels<\/h3>\n<p>Plain vowels: i, \u1ecb, u, e, \u00e6, a, \u00e5<br \/>\nDiphthongs: o, au, ei, ai, ia<\/p>\n<h3>Consonants<\/h3>\n<p>Voiced stops (S): b d g<br \/>\nUnvoiced stops (U): s t k<br \/>\nAffricates\/fricatives\/Generic Buzzy Category (F): v ts s dz z j sh \u0107 hj h<br \/>\nApproximants (Y): l y \u011f<br \/>\nFlaps\/trills (T): r rr<br \/>\nNasals (N): n gn m<\/p>\n<h3>Syllable Structure<\/h3>\n<p>FV(S)<br \/>\nNV<br \/>\nUV(F)<br \/>\nVF<br \/>\nVN<br \/>\nV<br \/>\nYV(N)<br \/>\nSYV(N)<br \/>\nUYV(N)<\/p>\n<h3>Word Order<\/h3>\n<p>OVS for normal sentences.<\/p>\n<p>VSO for imperatives.<\/p>\n<p>This language is agglutinative, like other \u1ecagzarhjenya languages. An epithet of Sa\u00e4matsra.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jumeidis.<\/strong> name. One who is in the company of that which upholds.<\/p>\n<h3>Suffixes<\/h3>\n<p>When adding suffixes to words, if vowels touch (and are not an allowed diphthong), <strong>-m-<\/strong> or <strong>-l-<\/strong> is inserted in between. This depends on whether the root is classified as active (<strong>-m-<\/strong>) or passive (<strong>-l-<\/strong>). For words with no noun form, the mediator is <strong>-h-<\/strong>. Some suffixes have their own vowel separators, marked with parentheses.<\/p>\n<p>Some vowels are dropped before forming suffixes. These vowels are <strong>e\/\u0117<\/strong> and <strong>\u1ecb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-ung.<\/strong> Possessing a quality. Transforms a noun into an adjective.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-ang.<\/strong> Being similar to.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-an.<\/strong> Within.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-\u011fan.<\/strong> City suffix. Gnasi\u011fan, Krias\u011fan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-ei.<\/strong> Common adjective\/adverb suffix.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-s.<\/strong> Sociative case. In company of.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-(d)i.<\/strong> Suffix carrying the quality of -ness. Makes adjectives into nouns. Gnasi, industrious. \u0106aneidi, friendliness. Kriameidi, rockiness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-va.<\/strong> Indicates that there are many of the noun. This is how plurals are made with passive nouns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-hey\u0117.<\/strong> Denotes a noun&#8217;s centrality or importance. \u0106au-hey\u0117, City-central. This is the capital city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-k\u00e6.<\/strong> Indicates that there are many of a noun. This is how plurals are made with active nouns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-ta.<\/strong> Politeness suffix for women. Tashung-ta.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-alar.<\/strong> Most high. Politeness suffix for women in positions of authority.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-itu.<\/strong> Politeness suffix for men. \u0106ana-itu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-ve\u011f\u00e6.<\/strong> Gender-neutral politeness suffix. Tajei-ve\u011f\u00e6.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-a.<\/strong> Naming suffix applied to nouns. Gender-neutral.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-o.<\/strong> Naming suffix applied to nouns.
